Mercedes-Benz 1958 Type 219 Sedan – NJ Garage Find

The Mercedes-Benz W105 is an automobile produced by Mercedes-Benz from 1956 to 1959 and marketed as the Mercedes-Benz Type 219. Part of the "Ponton" family, it features a 2.2 L inline 6-cylinder engine with a 4-speed on the column.

A true opportunity to own a very special and rare Mercedes-Benz.

This 1958 Mercedes-Benz 219 was purchased from eBay by the previous owner as a driving car. It lived in a New Jersey garage for the 10+ years of ownership. After a couple years of regular driving, the owner decided to take on a restoration effort. He proceeded to source replacement parts from Mercedes Classic, located in Irvine, CA. Photos of extra parts are included for review. The chassis was inspected and undercoated and looks clean. A new gas tank was purchased along with an engine exhaust manifold, carburetor rebuild, new air cleaner, brake master cylinder, assortment of rubber gaskets for various parts of the car, including fender gaskets as well as different light gaskets, and there are numerous replacement parts. Unfortunately, the restoration had to be put on the back burner and the restoration stalled. The new owner purchased the vehicle and started to reassemble the car with his son. They sourced a direct replacement carpet kit from Germany to accompany the otherwise completely original interior except for an aftermarket radio and headliner. The car looks good throughout, with a few areas that need attention. The passenger side rear quarter panel had some body work started but not completed and the electric system has to be sorted. Although the engine seems complete it will need a good going over to get it back to running condition. The car comes with a large stash of extra parts, as seen in photos. The items include some hard to find dash replacement parts.
